BIRTHDAY ON THE RADIO.
Chairman Roger Hindle & Principal Arts & Heritage Officer Sean Baggaley celebrated The Friends first birthday with an appearance on Oldham Community Radio’s “Oldham Today” programme on Friday 14th March.

The programme featured details of the two new exhibitions at the Gallery as well as a brief update on what The Friends of Gallery Oldham have done in their first year and what other events are planned for the coming months.

However, programme presenter, Mike Gill joked that he was disappointed Roger & Sean didn’t bring a birthday cake with them.

GALLERY RECEIVES GEM GRANT.
Gallery Oldham is absolutely thrilled to be awarded funding from the new GEM Arts Scholars Enriching Lives Grant Programme. Their project “Opening Oldham” will make the art collections accessible for Oldham school children and inspire them to create their own art and creative writing.

TWO NEW EXHIBITIONS LAUNCH.
Two new exhibitions launched at Gallery Oldham on Saturday 15th March.

In Gallery 2 – “New Life in an Old Building” by Ingrid Turner.

This exhibition gives an insight into the work that has been carried out to restore the Old Library building. The displays feature a series of specially commissioned photographs capturing the stories of those who have contributed to this restoration work.

In Gallery 4 – “Myth and Moor” by Sophie Tyrrell

The surrounding moorland provides the backdrop for Oldham based artist Sophie Tyrrell as she playfully grapples with the myth of progress. Dramatic carnivalesque scenes are animated by costumed creatures, using traditional crafting materials and brilliant colour.

Friends Chairman, Roger Hindle, managed to catch up with both artists at the launch afternoon Friends
